Infectious Diseases is designed to provide a foundation in basic hostparasite relationships with particular emphasis on the application of these principles in health care settings. The hospital environment provides a unique ecologic niche wherein alterations in hosts and microflora result in special patterns of infectious disease. The ubiquity of microbes, vulnerability of hospitalized population, and interactions between personnel and patients are emphasized to stimulate awareness and interest in infection control.
