The first half of a one-year course which presents the fundamental concepts of chemistry necessary for further studies in the areas of chemical, physical, or biological sciences. Topics covered include atomic structure, stoichiometry, the gaseous state, thermochemistry, periodic law, and chemical bonding. Guidelines for chemical hygiene, safety, and OSHA and EPA regulations are covered in the laboratory. The laboratory is designed to supplement the lectures.
