Study of the evaluation of alternatives, selection and design of foundations for civil engineering facilities such as buildings, bridges, and other public works. Consideration will be given to behavior of earth materials both during and after construction. Course topics will include subsurface investigation, stress analysis, settlement, bearing capacity, structural design of footings, lateral earth pressures and earth retaining structures, slope stability, and pile foundations.
