Taught entirely in Spanish, this is a basic survey of Spain and Latin America with emphasis on their history and cultural patterns. The politics, social structures and traditions of the Hispanic world from the twelfth century until today will be studied with a special focus on contemporary life in order to build a foundation for a more in depth study of the life, literature and culture of Spain and Latin America. (Prerequisite: SPAN 2114 or permission of the instructor)
