This course offers a meaning-based approach to translation, including problems arising from cross-cultural differences in stylistics, use of metaphor, figures of speech, etc. Special attention is given to ethnosemantics and discourse-pragmatics. Prerequisite: Syntax and Semantics I (LING 451/551), or equivalent. Pre- or co-requisite: Syntax and Semantics II (LING 452/552), or equivalent.
