School Diversity is designed to be an introduction to understanding the complex and diverse communities represented in our contemporary schools. This class facilitates student growth in intercultural skills. It is designed to lead students through a program that provides ample opportunity for exposure to a variety of educational settings and perspectives. The projected outcome is a student who engages in effective interactions with people from diverse cultures. The means for assessing and evaluating student performance in this class consists of active participation in class, a narrative log of experiences in a variety of settings, and critical response papers to readings and guest speakers from representatives of diverse cultures. Documentation of student growth in cultural competence is through the development of a reflective journal.
