This course examines the Gospel according to John and Epistles of John (with some reference also to the Apocalypse of John) as literature deriving probably from a single community of memory and tradition, perhaps in Ephesus. The focus is on historical and exegetical exploration of the Gospel and Epistles as distinctive adaptations of the Jesus tradition, as windows on early Christianity, and as authoritative statements on Christian life.. Prerequisites: BTH 101/102.
