Focuses on the ethnic, cultural, religious, economic and political diversity in select regions of Africa, as representative of the kinds of differences found throughout the continent. Explores such diversity through a historical framework, addressing the history of colonial penetration, the impact it had in various parts of Africa and in the African diaspora, and the complex interplay between indigenous cultures and their values with the exigencies of the modern nation state. Prereq: ANTH 130 or ANTH 140
