A survey of the historical development of the American Constitution with emphasis on the role of the judicial branch of the government as arbiter in determining the respective limits on national and state power, in protecting the individual against that national and state activity which offends the Bill of Rights and other constitutional guarantees of liberty and property, and in securing civil rights. Selected Supreme Court cases will be studied.
