An introduction to Latin America, focusing on the social, political, economic, religious, and other characteristics of many different Latin American cultures. This course employs research findings and perspectives from a number of different disciplines, including sociology, history, political science, and anthropology to explore the region’s historical development, its cultural diversity, and some of its critical social problems. Students do not have to speak or read any Spanish to take this course. This course fulfills the ethnic studies course requirement in the general education core. Offered fall term alternate years.
