Examines the family as a system. How it affects the client, how the client affects its family system and communication theories will be presented with specific attention to the student's awareness of their own family's system as a base from which they can develop an approach for understanding and working with families. The utilization of family counseling techniques in a variety of settings will also be examined. Didactic presentations, role playing and work with simulated families will be utilized.
