Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. Corequisite: EDUC 390. A study of the historical events and individuals contributing to early childhood education in conjunction with a study of current early childhood education models and programs (infancy through grade three). Meeting the needs of the child are addressed through the study of the role of ethnicity, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in growth and learning style, with emphasis on the individual child. Teacher candidates learn about the responsibilities of a childhood center administrator and how the administrator enables the use of developmentally appropriate learning activities. A 10-hour practicum is required. Candidates are responsible for arranging their own transportation to designated or assigned sites. This course cannot be challenged. Note: Offered: Spring.
