Prerequisite: Students must be admitted to the Nursing Program. Introduces the student to the need for theory development in nursing, selected nursing models, and the philosophy and conceptual framework of the School of Nursing. Attributes and values that define and support the professional nurse are explored. Institute of Medicine core healthcare professional competencies and concepts related to nursing practice are introduced. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of knowledge and skills for facilitative communication and understanding the significance of diversity in healthcare.
