Introduces students to basic concepts in film studies, historiography, and the relationship between these two modes of representation. Considers how filmmakers and historians have grappled with the past in their respective representations of several significant historical episodes, including American slavery, the American Civil War, the sinking of the Titanic, World War II, the Holocaust, the Viet Nam War.
