Surveys European and American art and art theory from the last Impressionist exhibitions through the rise of Fauvism, Expressionism, Dadaism, and Cubism. Examines the pioneering production of early Modernist artists such as Ce'zanne, Van Gogh, Matisse, Picasso, Kandinsky, Mondrian, and Duchamp, whose innovative work addressed the problems of the modern condition and transformed the very boundaries of artistic expression.
