CREDIT: 8 Prerequisites: CRU 250 or CRU 255, EPO 310, FF 200 During the cruise, the student functions as the supervisor and assumes responsibility for the proper performance of the first cruise students in engineering tasks. Responsibility is in the following areas: (1) as watch engineer, directly responsible to a licensed watch officer for the operation of all systems, ensuring that all data is properly taken and recorded and all duties properly performed; (2) as daywork assistant, maintaining and repairing equipment and systems under the supervision of an instructor; and (3) as engineering assistant, carrying out Third Assistant duties under the supervision of the Chief Engineer. By the end of cruise, the student will have demonstrated required STCW competencies and be ready to stand watch as a Third Assistant Engineer.
