CLASS HOURS: 3, CREDIT: 3 Prerequisite: BUS 105 This is a survey course in the nature, theory, and application of the legal concept of "property." Particular focus is given to property relevant to marine business students and, to a lesser extent, any Cal Maritime student. Topics addressed include real property theory and development; real property in practice; personal property; power over another's property (agency and bailments); buying your first residence; commercial and residential leases; intellectual property (copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets); vessels as property; transfer of property by wills and trusts; eminent domain; property ethics; and crimes against property.
