In the present, the United States is the singular world superpower and in many estimations the most dominating nation since the Roman Empire. Whoever holds the office of the President of the United States is most commonly considered the most powerful person in the world. Americans at the turn of the 20th century would be stunned that this proved to be the course of our nation and its President. This course will examine the Presidents and the situations they faced in the 20th and early 21st century that enabled the United States and its Presidency to transform from a provincial, isolationist nation with a President considered weak by monarchial standards to its present day state.
