Wide range of theory and criticism of film, photography, and painting in the 20th century is presented from which the student may cultivate a coherent critical awareness. The development of realism in Western art, the photographic image, narrative in film, montage, and the development of cinematography will be included with special attention given to the films of D.W. Griffith, Sergei Eisenstein, Jean Renoir, Alfred Hitchcock, and Orsen Welles. Graded: Graded Student. Units: 3.0
