Prerequisite: SOCI 102 and SOCI 290; or CRJU 201; or consent of instructor This course examines violence in the family from sociological and criminological perspectives. It also examines the response of the criminal justice system to family violence. The course examines the extent, types and causes of violence in families and domestic units and will also analyze the reasons why most family violence is directed against women and children. The course considers recommendations for family intervention and policies for the prevention of family violence, as well as the social and legal implications of those recommendations.
