This course exposes students to the various philosophies that laws and systems of punishment are based on today. The history of law in society is reviewed. Due Process and Crime Control philosophies are compared and contrasted. Each philosophy is applied to the various stages of criminal justice processing: arrest, trial, appeals and corrections. Various works of key philosophers in the field will be presented and discussed. Prerequisites: CRJU 1100 and CRJU 2900.
