MA 141 - Honors Calculus

Prerequisite(s): One year of high school calculus; enrollment in the Bentley College Honors Program; and placement in the top Mathematical Sciences Track. Note: Students who take this course may not receive credit for other non-honors freshman courses. Fulfills the Mathematics I general education requirement when followed by honors MA 249 (Mathematics II). Provides rigorous coverage of the techniques of differential and integral calculus. Topics such as the differentiation and integration of single variable functions, optimization, and improper integrals will be discussed. The majority of the class time will be devoted to applications from disciplines including, but not limited to, economics, finance, accounting, management and marketing. Special applications may include depreciation, marginal analysis and present/future value. Software will be utilized throughout the course for selected problems. Written reports and oral presentations for each weekly project will be required. Guest speakers will be used where appropriate.
