Description:
Prerequisite: PHYS 243 and PHYS 244 or PHYS 181 and PHYS 182; or consent of instructor The course introduces methods of computer simulation and its diverse applications. The course is project-oriented. Projects may include planetary motion, chaotic systems, fractal phenomena, random systems, and thermal systems. Methods include the numerical solution of differential equations and Monte Carlo techniques. The course emphasizes structured programming and is recommended for science majors as an introduction to programming. No background in computer programming is required. Two hours of lecture, and one two-hour laboratory period weekly.
