Prerequisite: POLI 275 or consent of instructor The course considers the contemporary challenges to democracy in terms of the great issues posed by both democratic theorist and philosophers. These views will be analyzed in terms of the authoritarian, military, religious, ethnic and economic problems faced by countries undergoing democratization.
