Prerequisite: POLI 272 or consent of instructor This is a course in totalitarianism as a form of political organization. The goal is to review, explain and understand the following: 1) the political, social, ideological and economic forces that give rise to this extremist form of polity; 2) the various mechanisms through which totalitarian rule manifests itself and is exercised; and 3) the role and influence of key political decision makers in totalitarian states.
