Prerequisite: Admission to the Professional Education Program This course examines reading disability in the context of typical reading development and reviews appropriate classroom interventions. Specifically, this course addresses the acquisition and development of literacy; cognitive, physical, cultural and environmental contributions to reading disability; various models for intervention and specific instructional strategies for building skill and fluency in reading across grades and disciplines. A field-based prepracticum experience is required.
