This course is designed for students who are interested in integrating the practice of painting with contemporary topics currently being discussed in other fields of study. Students will draw content from Social Science, Natural Science, the Humanities, and Engineering as subject matter for their paintings. We will read news columns on a regular basis and discuss subjects that students are learning about in other courses across campus. Through a sequence of projects, students will also learn the foundations of painting using traditional and experimental techniques. Formal and informal critiques will follow the completion of each project. Readings, short written assignments, and visits to various cultural institutions in the city of Rochester are to be expected. This course is appropriate for students at all levels of studio practice. No previous experience is required. Students who have taken Introductory Painting may still take this course for additional credit. Studio art supplies fee: $50.
