The systematic study of the groups and societies in which people live providing a unique way to look at human behavior and the world by examining how social structures and cultures are created maintained and how they affect behavior. Course focuses on United States society as students learn about social life, examines the impact of society on individuals and vice versa. Students will learn why societies differfrom one another, the nature of social bonds ethnicity culture and norms how bureaucracies and other hierarchies function, why inequalities pervade society and how we can study them.
