Elucidates key inorganic chemistry concepts, including chemical bonding, structure, reactions and characterization methods and their applications in biology and medicine. Bioinorganic chemistry is a rapidly expanding interdisciplinary field. Topics include metalloenzymes, iron transport proteins, biomineralization in bones and shells and chemotherapeutic agents. Prerequisite: Honors standing or permission to attend an honors course and CHE 1046R and CHE 1046L or CHE 1046H or CHE 1046C.
