Description:
This course is designed to introduce students to the surgical environment, the history of surgery and the legal, ethical, moral and psychological responsibilities of the surgical technologist. Emphasis is placed on principles of asepsis, safety and the importance of teamwork. Common surgical and diagnostic procedures are introduced. The program will include basic electricity, computers, robotics, and some physics as related to the operating room. Clinical expertise begins with campus laboratory sessions followed by clinical experience in a supervised setting within a hospital. Students must register for a lecture and laboratory/clinical section. Students must complete a minimum of 300 hours in campus laboratory and clinical setting.
