ARST 41416 - Intermediate Film Production

Institution:
University of Notre Dame
Subject:
Art Studio
Description:
This film production course will focus on 16mm black-and-white silent narrative filmmaking. We will explore the technical use and aesthetic application of the film camera and related equipment as well as the development of the short film narrative script. Students will shoot a short film lighting and composition exercise and in-class film test, and ultimately produce, shoot, and edit one four- to six-minute, 16mm black and white film in teams of two. The projects will be edited digitally, but there will be NO effects, fades, dissolves, titles, or sound. The filmmaking process requires a lot of field work on locations and transporting heavy equipment. In addition to the projects there will be a midterm and a few papers required. Materials fee required.
