Culture is a popular and useful item but exceedingly complicated. Course is devoted to understanding this complication across disciplinary boundaries. The concept of culture forms a bridge between two intellectual traditions. Substantive issues include: how culture relates to state and is woven into world economic systems; problems of periodization and how culture articulates with other concepts such as art and creativity.
