Evaluation of the implications of the efficient markets theory for the profitability of alternative investment strategies. Focus is on generation and use of relevant data and valuation from the portfolio perspective. Topics include: security valuation principles and models, economic analysis, industry analysis, company analysis, and technical analysis. The course emphasizes both domestic and foreign investment opportunities. Discussion of recent developments in valuation and portfolio application, standards, regulation, and ethics. Students will practice portfolio construction, monitoring, and performance evaluation. Prerequisite: BUS 301.
