This course is designed to teach and develop instrumental performance skills in contemporary improvisation. Although the focus is on jazz, the basic performance techniques explored may be used in all forms of contemporary music. Prerequisites: Permission of instructor to determine acceptable performance ability on an instrument and the equivalent of one year of music theory; class piano is also recommended; Mus 230A and 230.
