A survey of the history of selected regions of Africa in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, this course deals with the events and processes leading to the European colonization of Africa and subsequent changes in African societies under colonial rule. This is a course about Africans and how they responded to the challenges and opportunities presented by foreign influences such as those accompanying colonialism.
