This course provides an introduction to the religion and history of ancient Egypt. The aim is to provide an understanding of the characteristics of the society of ancient Egypt and how that ancient culture succeeded as one of the most sophisticated and long- lived civilizations in world history. Special attention will be given to funerary literature and religion, cults, magic and ritual, religious art and architecture, the sacred writing system, and the religion of daily life. [8/30/2006]
