A survey of art ("classical") from the age of Beethoven to the present day. This course traces the development of music during the Romantic and Modern eras. Beginning with an introduction to the basic materials of music, the course focuses on the history of art music, the major composers from Beethoven to the present, their important works, stylistic and formal traits, and the cultural-historic settings in which their music was created.
