In this course students will develop an increased understanding of the function and process of entrepreneurship in the context of the global economy and in the personal lives of those engaged in it. The course will enable students to appreciate the importance of entrepreneurship for an organization and the challenges associated with promoting entrepreneurial behaviors within the organization. Through various activities and case studies, students will learn to recognize and analyze business opportunities and develop appropriate strategies to pursue them. Some of the practical realities, transition points, issues and dilemmas confronted by entrepreneurs seeking to build a business are highlighted so that they may subsequently be incorporated into the business planning process. A variety of individual and team-based assignments will be used to validate the concepts presented in this course. [9/1/2004]
