The course will examine ways in whcih England's landscape and social structures have been the focus for generations of poets and prose writers. It will examine works of many writers including Edmund Spenser, Jane Austen, D.H. Lawrence and Charles Dickens to explore the correlation that may exist between location and social setting and the principal concerns of the writer. [1/27/1997]
