This course provides a comprehensive overview of the U.S. Criminal Justice System. In context to the philosophical underpinning of U.S. Constitution and the historical, social, and political development of the U.S., the three major components of the criminal justice system are explored: (1) the police and law enforcement, (2) the court and adjudication system and (3) corrections. The framework of the course evolves about the constructs of social order and control, theories of criminality and the influence of public policy in the maintenance of social order, crime control, and crime prevention.
