A hands-on class in newspaper design and typography using Quark Xpress and Adobe's Illustrator and Photoshop applications. The class will take students through the paper, section by section, to understand the similarities and differences of presentation for various subject matter. Students will learn and discuss story placement, habits of readers, point of entry and the interaction of text and images. Students will design and create their own newspaper pages, along with charts, maps and simple graphics, under deadline conditions. Students will be expected to have read, and bring to class, a daily newspaper of their choice each class day. [8/30/2006]
