In the sub-genre of hard science fiction, the story is founded on sound scientific or technological extrapolations and explores how individuals and society react to the changes. This course will look at the science used in a variety of short stories, novels and films. Topics can include planetary science, genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, celestial mechanics, black holes, chemistry, physics, and ecology. (F)
