(ELCE-307, ELCE-384, or consent of department) An introduction to microcomputer systems with an emphasis placed on using the microcomputer as a digital design element. Topics include, basic computer architecture, number systems, codes, arithmetic and logic operations, and assembly language programming. Microcomputer development tools such as assemblers, linkers, and logic analyzers will be discussed. A popular microcomputer system will be studied to teach I/O, data communications, and bus structure, input/ output devices, and communications. Emphasis will be on the use of a microcomputer in the design of digital systems.
