The fossil record of human existence reaches back nearly 7 million years into the past and is the focus of the discipline of paleonanthropology. This exciting course examines the fossil evidence for human evolution and the biological processes that have shaped this most unique radiation. Using fossil casts and other resources, students will explore the nature of the fossil record and the fundamentals of paleoanthropological research. The course will also detail the nature of contrversies and differing interpretations of the fossil evidence, as well as differing interpretations of the fossil evidence, as well as the proposed phylogenetic relationships of hominids.
