This course will address the therapeutic issues related to effective interventions and treatment modalities for alcohol and other drug abusing clients and their families. Through both didactic and experiential learning, students will explore theoretical and clinical aspects of addiction, codependency, family dysfunction and family trauma. Issues related to intervention, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and self help will be discussed. Ethical considerations when dealing with the chemically dependent client will be explored.
