Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Minimum GPA for California residents - 2.0. Minimum GPA for Non-residents - 2.4.
  • Official Transcripts:
    High school transcripts are required if applying with less than 60 credits. College transcript(s) are required from all institutions attended. Applicants must be in good standing at the last college or university attended.
  • SAT Scores:
    SAT/ACT scores are required if applying with less than 60 credits, unless your high school GPA was above 3.0 (3.6 for non-residents).
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Not required for admissions consideration.
  • Essay:
    Not required for admissions consideration.
  • Application Fee:
    Yes, $55 nonrefundable fee must be submitted with the application. The fee may be waived if applying from a community college that participates with San Jose's Transfer Admission Agreements.
  • Interview:
    Not required for admissions consideration.
  • Other Requirements:
    Additional requirements vary according to applicant status (lower-division transfer or upper division transfer) and program of study.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    In general, credit may transfer for courses where a grade of at least a C has been earned.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    For lower division transfer - less than 60 credits (only accepted for Engineering and Nursing majors). For upper division transfer - 60 or more credits. You must earn 30 credits at SJSU to earn a bachelor's degree.
