Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    The minimum GPA requirement is 2.0 (2.4 for non-residents) or better in all transferable courses. Non-local area residents may be held to a higher GPA standard.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Send official transcripts to SF State as soon as possible from all colleges you've attended, even if no coursework was completed.
  • SAT Scores:
    Not required for admissions consideration.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Not required for admissions consideration.
  • Essay:
    Not required for admissions consideration.
  • Application Fee:
    Yes, a $55 nonrefundable fee must be submitted with the application.
  • Interview:
    Not required for admissions consideration.
  • Other Requirements:
    Applicants must have completed at least 30 semester units (45 quarter units) of lower-division General Education (GE) courses with a grade of C or better. Some programs require additional admissions criteria and have specific application deadlines.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    In general, credit may be granted for courses where a grade of at least a D has been earned.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Minimum credits - 60 credits. Maximum credits from a two-year institution - 70 credits. You must complete 30 semester units of the 120 required at SF State to earn a bachelor's degree.
