Financial Information

• Scholarships and Financial Aid:
  If your current university or college has already awarded financial aid for next term (semester), cancel your aid for next term (semester) with your current university or college and add SHSU (003606) to your FAFSA.

Information for Transfer In Students

• Accepts Transfers:
  A transfer student is defined as an undergraduate student who has completed a minimum of 12 hours of transferable academic coursework from an accredited college or university.

Transfer Application Requirements

• Minimum GPA:
  12-17 hours must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on transferable hours. 18+ hours must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher on transferable hours. Undergraduate students who transfer from a college or university of recognized standing with less than 12 transferable hours must meet the standards of beginning freshmen students, as well as have a cumulative grade point average of a 2.5 or higher on transferable hours.
• Official Transcripts:
  Official transcripts from all institutions attended are required for admission consideration. High school transcripts are not required for admission consideration.
• SAT Scores:
  Standardized test scores are not required for admission consideration.
• Essay:
  An essay or personal statement is not required for admission consideration.
• Application Fee:
  There is a $45 non-refundable application fee. SHSU charges a convenience fee of 2.75% for all credit card payments which includes application fee payments through Apply Texas.
• Interview:
  An interview is not required for admission consideration.
• Other Requirements:
  Courses taken at community colleges do not satisfy the advanced hours required at Sam Houston State University. Students who are currently suspended from another college or university are not eligible for admission to Sam Houston State University.

Transfer Credit Policy

• Minimum Grade:
  The lowest grade earned for any course that may be transferred for credit is a D or higher.
• Credits (Min/Max):
  Sam Houston State University accepts a maximum of 66 semester credit hours plus four hours of activity- based physical education (kinesiology) for a total of 70 semester credit hours from the accredited community colleges attended.
