Founded in 1840 by Saint Mother Theodore Guerin and the Sisters of Providence, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is the oldest Catholic liberal arts college for women in the United States. SMWC thrives by offering a rich liberal arts education, scholarships and financial aid opportunities to make college affordable, individual attention, a value-centered education in a Catholic tradition, and a wide variety of student leadership activities.   • Scholarships and Financial Aid:
    SMWC is committed to the higher education of women and men in the tradition of the liberal arts, with emphasis on preparing students for leadership roles in a diverse and global society. The vision of the Financial Aid Office is to enhance recruitment and retention of students through support of financial aid programs to assist families with educational expenses.

Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    A minimum cumulative gpa of 2.0/4.0 is required for all transfer students, although a 2.5/4.0 is preferred for most programs.
  • Official Transcripts:
    Official transcripts from each college or university attended are required. Transfer applicants with fewer than 15 transferable semester credits are required to submit official high school transcripts.
  • SAT Scores:
    Transfer applicants with fewer than 15 transferable semester credits are required to submit official SAT or ACT scores.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    A completed "Teacher/Faculty Evaluation Form" or a separate letter of recommendation sent directly to the college from a person who can attest to your ability to handle college-level work (must be non-family member)is required.
  • Essay:
    A personal essay (200-300 words) is required with your application.
  • Application Fee:
    There is a $30 non-refundable application fee, which is waived if you apply online.

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College accepts transfer hours from regionally accredited institutions if the student earned the grade of ā€œCā€ or better in the course.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Saint Mary-Of-The-Woods College does not publish minimum/maximum credit requirements for transfer.
