St. Bonaventure University is a private, liberal arts college located near the city of Olean in southwestern New York state. The campus is about 75 miles south of Buffalo, and 115 miles south of Rochester, New York. The University was founded in 1858 by a group of Franciscan friars, a Catholic religious order dedicated to the teachings and values of St. Francis of Assisi: equality, justice, peace and community. These valeus create a special bond and community among students at St. Bonaventure. Approximately 2000 undergraduates are becoming extraordinary at SBU and the student to faculty ratio of 14 to 1 demonstrates our committment to your personal success. Transfer Application Requirements

  • Minimum GPA:
    Minimum GPA of 2.0 required for most programs. Minimum GPA requirement of 3.0 for Education Majors, and Minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 required for Journalism/Mass Communications
  • Official Transcripts:
    All transfer students must submit official transcripts from their high school, showing graduation and/or equivalency, and from all college/university institutions previously attended
  • SAT Scores:
    SAT scores are not required but strongly recommended. Average SAT score for a transfer students is 1000.
  • Letters of Recommendation:
    Recommendation letters are encouraged and evaluated, but not required.
  • Essay:
    An essay is required as part of the main application. Interested transfer students must complete the prompting questions.
  • Application Fee:
    Application is completed for FREE online, $30 for paper application;
  • Interview:
    An interview is strongly recommended for students. Interviews are held Monday - Friday, as well as in the evening and on weekends during programs held throughout the year

Transfer Credit Policy

  • Minimum Grade:
    In order for a class to be given transfer credit, a student must obtain a grade of "C" or above. C- is not acceptable.
  • Credits (Min/Max):
    Minimum amount of credits acceptable as a transfer is 6 (2 classes). There is no maximum number of credits allowed. All credits are accepted, however St. Bonaventure does have a 60 credit hour residency requirement.
